Membership
The objective of the Stage Harbor Yacht Club is to teach, encourage and promote the sport of sailing. The Club welcomes inquiries from prospective new members who share those objectives. Application for membership requires:
- Completed SHYC Application Form. Forms are available online here, at Stage Harbor Yacht Club, or from a member of the Admissions Committee.
- Two letters of recommendation – One from the candidate’s proposer and one from the candidate’s seconder. The proposer should know the candidate(s) for a reasonable period of time and should feel entirely confident that the candidate(s) will be suitable additions to the Club. Club members may propose up to two candidates per calendar year.
- Approval by the Admissions Committee.
Applications for admission to SHYC are accepted throughout the year, however in order for a new member to be included in the current printed directory, all materials and payments must be received by May 1st. The Proposer shall assume responsibility for submitting to the Admissions Committee all of the requirements needed for the application process and will also be responsible for all communications between the Candidate and the Admissions Committee. Admission to Stage Harbor Yacht Club does not guarantee admission to the Sailing School and Junior Entertainment. From time to time, the Sailing School reaches full capacity and a waiting list is created for new members. Students will be admitted on a first-come basis according to age and ability. Top-notch instruction and safety are the Club’s primary concerns thus limiting class size and space availability.
Students in the Sailing School:
- Must be six years old before attending first class and pass swimming test to attend Hermit Crabs.
- Must be eight years old before attending first class and pass swimming test to attend Seaman.
